The Missing Piece: Drought Impacts Monitoring Report Released

Identifying drought impacts are a critical component of building an effective Drought Early Warning System. Currently, impact reports are typically sporadic, making it difficult to tell if an area is not experiencing impacts or those impacts are not being reported. To address this, two RISA Teams (Carolinas RISA and Climate Assessment for the Southwest) and the Southwest Climate Science Center convened a workshop to discuss improvements in monitoring impacts. Their report and recommendations are posted on the NIDIS drought portal: http://www.drought.gov/media/pgfiles/Drough_Impacts_Report_June2013_final.pdf.
