SCIPP recently developed a new tool, the County-Level Minimum Temperature Explorer (CMinTEx), that analyzes several variables related to minimum temperature. The following variables are analyzed for the contiguous U.S. from 1951 to the near present:
- Freeze Days – number of days where the minimum temperature was less than or equal to 32°F
- Coldest Minimum Temperature – coldest county-wide minimum temperature annually
- Warmest Minimum Temperature – warmest county-wide minimum temperature annually
- Minimum Temperature Threshold – the number of days with greater than or equal to OR less than or equal to a user-defined temperature

This tool can be used alongside SCIPP’s Temperature Trends Dashboard and allows for five counties to be selected at a time. The analysis of minimum temperatures was conducted due to the unique impact climate change has had on minimum temperatures. For more information about the methodology, datasets, and included variables, see the documentation tab of the tool.
