This project addressed three questions about what happens when individuals access news stories about drought: (1) What do they think? (2) Why do they have different thoughts? (3) What are the consequences for decision-making? The model proposed that thoughts or implications derived from news stories are influenced by experience with extreme weather, belief in climate change, and story appraisal. Implications (both quantity and type) lead to outcomes such as fear, sympathy, and endorsing action.
